Dome

The Video Dome touring exhibition consists of a program of projected video/computer generated works on the inside of a six metre wide air-supported lightweight hemispherical dome.

The works in the dome are experienced in a purpose-made easy transportable exhibition space creating a fully immersive environment, This is a new, exciting and innovative way of experiencing projected video and surround-sound.

The exhibition is a partnership between Pete Wheeler, the manager of Horizon, the Planetarium at Scitech, Paul Bourke, Senior Visualisation Research Fellow at WASP (Western Australian Supercomputer Program) at UWA and new media artist David Carson.

  1. The format of the exhibition takes audio visual projection into a new and highly innovative field- creating a totally immersive video and sound environment, with video projected on the inside of an inverted hemispherical screen (a sort of cross between a large tent and an enormous igloo).

  2. This concept is a collaboration  between David Carson, an established Australian new media artist, Paul Bourke an astrophysicist and scientific visualisation expert and Pete Wheeler who has an extensive experience of dome projection works. The subject matter of the video projections includes artworks developed specifically for a vertical viewing experience using 180 degree circular fisheye distortion for an immersive dome screen experience.
